Review

The belief in evil - and that evil can be cast out. From these two strands of faith, author William Peter Blatty and director William Friedkin wove The Exorcist, the frightening and realistic story of an innocent girl inhabited by a malevolent entity.

Academy Award winner Friedkin, who introduces the film and supervised this new video transfer from restored picture and audio elements, gets effective performances from Linda Blair, Ellen Burstyn, Jason Miller, Max von Sydow and Lee J. Cobb. The Exorcist remains, 25 years later, one of the most shocking and gripping movies ever made.

Having first seen this on its release and being the most scariest film around I must admit I still can't watch it on my own after all this time. Excellent.

Customer rating: 2 out of 5 stars Overrated!

This was released the year i was born and my Mam loves to tell me she almost went into labour whilst watching it. It was obviously deemed scary in the 70's!

The story of a young girl 'possessed' by the devil himself is supposedly based on the true story of a young American boy in the late 1800's. The acting is mediocre at best (although Max Von Sydow is excellent as usual) and I think the whole film relies on 'shock' value rather than a decent story.

Personally I think the most disturbing thing about this is the fact that a young child was allowed to act out some very explicit scenes with the blessing of her Mother. Thats the scary part!

Customer rating: 3 out of 5 stars Not bad
